Senate Climate Bill

The U.S. Senate has introduced their version of the Cap & Trade bill.  Ford West of The Fertilizer Institute said "The climate change legislation provides government incentives that will encourage a wide range of utilities to switch to natural gas as an alternative for generating energy, as well as incentives for natural gas vehicles.  This will undoubtedly increase the demand for and the price of natural gas, for which there is no substitute for in the manufacturing of nitrogen fertilizers.  Congress must keep in mind that fertilizer is a crucial food security resource and responsible for 40 - 60% of the world's food supply.  It is vital that Congress develop legislation that will preserve the U.S. fertilizer industry and the manufacturing sectors' ability to remain viable in a highly competitive world market."
