Legislative Hearing on Atrazine

The Illinois House of Representatives Environmental Health Committee has scheduled a hearing on February 23 to give an audience to a professor from the University of California Berkeley who wishes to share his opinions about atrazine.  Dr. Tyrone Hayes has frequently given speeches on how he believes atrazine causes homosexuality, chemical castration, feminization and various cancers.  His work has been disputed and discounted by numerous credible scientific panels and organizations including USEPA.  IFCA is working with the Chemical Industry Council of Illinois, Syngenta, Farm Bureau, Corn Growers and legislators on the committee to refute Dr. Hayes' testimony.  With all this going on in Springfield you almost forget we have a backlog of $5 billion in unpaid bills and a $100 billion dollar pension deficit.  With all the attacks on agricultural chemicals and fertilizers, it's evident that some people forget that agriculture is the leading industry producing consistent cash receipts for our state and employs 1 in 4 Illinois citizens.
