Wind Energy & Crop Production

Did you know that by 2025, 25% of the electricity produced in Illinois must come from renewable sources?  There are significant incentives for wind energy, thus we've seen a multitude of companies come into Illinois and propose wind farms.  IFCA and the Illinois Ag Aviation Association are meeting with wind energy companies and farmers to communicate the concerns we have regarding the availability and cost of aerial application around wind towers.  We encourage you to also get involved if a wind project is being discussed in your area.  The legal counsel at Illinois Farm Bureau has put together a document that lists the questions that need to be addressed as landowners consider wind contracts.  Go to the IFCA homepage at www.ifca.com to take a look at this document.  Feel free to share it with your customers.  Our industry is not opposed to wind energy, but clearly more education on the issue is needed and questions should be asked about these projects and how they may impact production agriculture activities.
