UI Needs Ag Retailers Help on NREC Project

The Illinois Nutrient Research & Education Council (NREC) is funding research essential in updating the P and K recommendations in Illinois.  To do so, the UI Dept of Crop Sciences needs grain samples and yield estimates from around the state, taken during harvest from farmer's fields.  They are seeking samples of corn and soybeans at this time and the cost of shipping the samples and the analysis will be paid for by NREC.  Cooperating farmers can have the results emailed directly to them if they include their email address on the sample bag form.  All of the information will be aggregated for purposes of the research study.

The UI needs of the help of ag retailers in this critical research project; this is a great opportunity to call upon your customers during harvest to touch base and inform them that the assessment they pay on fertilizer is being put to good use to improve the nutrient recommendations that they rely upon to ensure soil fertility and crop response.  Click here to download the instructions for ordering sample bags, collecting the samples and how to mail them to UI.  Again, there is no cost other than your time and the opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to research and education to support the 4Rs and sound science in nutrient recommendations.  We once again have a vigorous nutrient research program in Illinois--let's take advantage of it!

On behalf of IFCA, thanks for responding to this important request.
