Wait for Invoice to Pay NREC Fertilizer Assessment

Please pass these instructions on to the person at your company who is responsible for remitting the fertilizer tonnage reports and paying the fertilizer fees to the Illinois Department of Agriculture.

DO NOT pay the 75 cent per ton assessment for the Nutrient Research & Education Council until you receive a specific invoice for NREC from the IDA.  Once you have submitted your tonnage reports to IDA, you must remit the 25 cent per ton inspection fee to IDA as in the past.  For the 75 cent per ton NREC fee, IDA will generate an invoice for the amount you must pay based on your tonnage report, and IDA will mail you the invoice along with a return enveloped that is addressed to NREC, which is a PO Box in Bloomington, IL.

This process is set up this way to ensure that payments to NREC are sent to NREC, not to the IDA.  NREC is an entity outside of state government, and the money deposited into NREC to be used for nutrient reserach and education cannot be swept and used for other purposes.  It is a condition of your fertilizer license to remit the NREC assessment.  If you have any questions please contact Jean Payne at 309.827.2774.
