Illinois Dicamba Restrictions Remain in Effect for OTT Soybean Applications

As post-emergence herbicide applications continue across Illinois, both federal and Illinois-specific restrictions remain in place for over-the-top (OTT) dicamba use in soybeans during the 2026 growing season.

Illinois continues to enforce state-specific restrictions beyond the federal label, including a June 20 application cutoff date and a prohibition on applications when air temperatures exceed 85°F at the field at the time of application. Annual dicamba-specific training is also required for applicators.

In addition to Illinois requirements, EPA’s updated federal dicamba labels include expanded drift mitigation, runoff management, and recordkeeping requirements for OTT dicamba applications.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has indicated that all federal and state label requirements remain fully enforceable for the 2026 season. Applicators and retailers should review current federal labels and Illinois-specific use restrictions prior to application.

Additional information regarding dicamba training and Illinois restrictions is available through the Illinois Department of Agriculture and University of Illinois Extension.
