New Resources Available to Help Navigate ESA Herbicide Label Requirements

A new educational video series has been released to help applicators, ag retailers, and growers better understand evolving herbicide label requirements under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). Developed through a collaboration that includes CropLife America, the Agricultural Retailers Association, and the Weed Science Society of America, the four-part series provides step-by-step guidance on how to comply with new federal requirements.

The series focuses on key compliance areas, including mitigation strategies, spray drift reduction, runoff management, and the use of EPA’s Bulletins Live! Two system to determine whether fields fall within a Pesticide Use Limitation Area (PULA). Applicators are now required to check this system prior to application to identify any additional restrictions or mitigation requirements tied to endangered species protections.

The videos also highlight new label requirements that may require operators to implement practices such as vegetative filter strips, cover crops, or no-till systems to reduce runoff and erosion. These changes reflect the increasing role of ESA considerations in pesticide registration and use decisions.
