Update Regarding Large Scales

Earlier this week we informed you that the Illinois Department of Ag Bureau of Weights and Measures had sent out letters to facilities with large scales requesting proof of a Certificate of Conformance (COC) to show your scale system conforms to the National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) guidelines.

After we met with IDA this week, they informed IFCA that they are re-evaluating this issue and will be issuing a clarification letter to all the facilities shortly.  It is our understanding that the COC will only be required for scales installed after 2002.  But until we get official word from IDA, we urge you to not do anything more at this time regarding the Certificates of Conformance.  If you have any questions, please contact Jean or Kevin at the IFCA office.  As soon as we get official word from IDA on the clarification we will let you know more details.

We appreciate the many calls we received from our members on this issue.  We also commend IDA for listening to IFCA's concerns and moving quickly to re-evaluate the issue.  This impacted not only the fertilizer industry, but also grain elevators and aggregate producers, and IFCA worked in concert with the Grain & Feed Asssociation of Illinois and the Illinois Association of Aggregate Producers in discussing our concerns with IDA.
