Commodity Groups Urge USITC To Reject Steep Antidumping Duties on 2,4-D
Commodity groups are asking the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) to reject Corteva Agriscience's bid for new antidumping and countervailing duties (AD/CVD) on imports of 2,4-D herbicide from China and India. In 2023, nearly 80% of 2,4-D sold in the US was sourced from India and China—meaning new duties would have a major effect on prices for the popular herbicide.
USITC held a final hearing on April 1 in the AD/CVD investigation into 2,4-D imports from China and India. The investigation was initiated last year following a petition from Corteva, the sole domestic producer of the chemical, and is set to conclude whether duties are merited later this month. Concurrent with the USITC hearing Tuesday, the USITA issued a final affirmative determination in the investigation, which proposed setting stiff new duties—ranging from just under 10% for some firms to nearly 300% for one Chinese 2,4-D producer.
