KIC & The Illinois Fertilizer Act
The Keep it for the Crop Program (KIC) has been incredibly well received by ag retailers and growers alike. As Dan Schaefer, Director of Nutrient Stewardship, meets with dealers and growers in the priority watersheds, it is readily apparent that finding ways to reduce nutrient losses equates to increased yields, which is a win/win for agriculture and the environment. In addition to supporting KIC, IFCA is leading an effort to revitalize funding for nutrient research and education in Illinois. We have introduced changes to the Illinois Fertilizer Act that will ensure that money from the fertilizer tonnage fee is managed in a way to protect the funds from being swept. It will also assure an adequate and stable funding source to help us meet the challenges facing the nutrient industry from a regulatory standpoint, and to enhance productivity through sound utilization of nutrients. You can track the legislation by going to the "Legislative" link on the IFCA website.
