EPA Announces Reconsideration of Vehicle Emissions Standards
On Thursday, March 12th, EPA Administrator Zeldin announced that the EPA would begin the process of reconsidering the Biden Administration's emissions regulations governing light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles. This reconsideration action includes the “GHG3” rule for trucks that would have impacted model year 2027-2032 vehicles. The regulation would have required an annual increase percentage of “zero emissions vehicles” (ZEVs), with MY 2032 ZEV requirements set at 60% for light-heavy vocational vehicles, 40% for medium-heavy vocational vehicles, 30% for heavy-heavy vocational vehicles, 40% for day cab tractors, and 25% for sleeper cab tractors. The rule was structured in a way that would only drive electric truck investment, despite technology and infrastructure challenges.
