Updated Insert Released for CDL Study Guide
The Illinois Secretary of State has released an updated section to the CDL Study Guide. This insert contains information for a CDL applicant to successfully complete a pre-trip inspection and basic control skills exam on or after September 1st, 2024. This updated insert replaces pages 140-152 in the current CDL Study Guide. IFCA is pleased to report that Illinois SOS has removed the parallel parking from the testing.
The pre-trip testing will go back to the same rules prior to the 2015 changes. For the pre-trip, the new update includes the checklist that test administrators will be asking. The testing administrators will also be allowed to prompt the drivers now for the proper answers. The basic controls skills test (driving test) will now only include the following four steps:
- Forward stop
- Straight line backing
- Forward Offset Tracking
- Reverse Offset Backing
