US Senate and House Lay Groundwork for Next Farm Bill

In the last week, the House and Senate have released summaries of their proposed Farm bills. The Senate has not indicated when they will mark up their farm bill, but the House is showing a drive to do it before the Memorial Day recess. IFCA has received the summaries of both of the Senate and House proposals.

One of IFCA's top priorities was included in the House Farm Bill proposal. Currently, only USDA can write conservation and nutrient management plans on USDA programs. This new provision would allow certified crop advisers to write nutrient management plans and receive financial compensation for writing those plans.

IFCA will work with all Illinois House Ag committee members to gain their support and to make sure that this moves on to the house floor in the coming weeks.
