Illinois Attorney General Raoul Urges U.S. EPA to Regulate Pesticide
Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul Tuesday announced he and 12 other attorneys general have penned at letter to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) urging them to implement restrictions on pesticides that have demonstrated harm to bees.
In the letter, they argue that the chemical sulfoxaflor has shown to be dangerous to bees, and that any threat to pollinators could ultimately have harmful effects on the environment, the economy, and the nation's food security.
They are urging the EPA to restrict the pesticide's using while crops are blooming and bees are active, reimpose a buffer zone between sulfoxaflor spray and blooming vegetation, and support further research into the impacts of the chemical on the environment, ecosystems, and humans.
In addition to Raoul, the letter was signed by the attorneys general of Arizona, California, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington.
