Applicator Training Session
This inaugural session will be held on Thursday, January 19th from 9:00am-12:15pm. Attendees are welcome to breakfast on the tradeshow floor beforehand. This session is for individuals who operate application equipment and will cover the latest information on nozzles, equipment clean-outand avoiding cross contamination, spray drift and safety awareness on the road and in the field of application.

Bryan Young – Purdue University
Bryan Young is a Professor of Weed Science in the department of Botany and Plant Pathology at Purdue University. Bryan earned his bachelor’s degree in crop and soil science at Michigan State University and doctorate in crop science (specialization in weed science) from the University of Illinois. Bryan has held an academic appointment with teaching, research, and outreach activities for over 24 years. Bryan’s research and education at Purdue focuses on weed biology and ecology, herbicide application technology, and characterizing herbicide resistance in weeds.

Bill Simmons – University of Illinois
Dr. Bill Simmons is Emeritus Professor in the Colleges of ACES at the University of Illinois. He taught both Introductory Crop Sciences, Introductory Soil Science and both Crop and Soil Management. Dr. Simmons started a research and extension career at the University of Illinois in 1987 following completion of his Ph.D. at North Carolina State University. Dr Simmons’ research has focused on environmental behavior of herbicides and plant nutrients in agronomic systems, evaluation of cropping systems, and a variety of weed science topics. He has also been extensively involved in training certified crop advisers (CCA) and agronomists across the Midwest and South. His teaching and training honors include the College of ACES, College Faculty Award for Excellence in Extension, the Mid-America Croplife Association (MACA), Educator of the Year, and the College of ACES, John Clyde and Henrietta Downey Spitler Teaching Award. Each year he taught he appeared on the University of Illinois Incomplete List for Outstanding Instructors. He has enjoyed over 30 years of engaging diverse audiences and clients while bringing life to agronomic topics.

Dan Schaefer – Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association
Dan is the Director of Nutrient Stewardship for the Illinois Fertilizer & Chemical Association. Prior to joining IFCA in 2012, Dan spent 30 years in the ag retail business as an agronomist and plant manager for Illini FS, working directly with growers on improving their yields through agronomic practices and recommendations, and assisting the University of Illinois with on-farm research to improve nutrient efficiency.
Dan has a Master of Science degree in Agronomy from the University of Illinois. He is a Certified Professional Agronomist, a Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) and a 4R Nutrient Management Specialist. Illinois Farm Bureau named Dan CCA of the Year in 2010.
Dan and his family reside in Tolono, Illinois.
