Nutrient Issues Update

On June 1-2, IFCA will participate in a Nutrient Stewardship Summit in Chicago which is being organized by The Fertilizer Institute, Ag Retailers Association, Canadian Fertilizer Institute, International Plant Nutrition Institute and the Certified Crop Advisors.  Jean Payne will be presenting the proactive efforts that IFCA is engaged in with regard to Illinois agriculture's commitment to "Keep it on the Crop" by 2025.

On May 16, IFCA was honored to help present agriculture's perspective to the Illinois Nutrient Stakeholders Workgroup at IEPA.  This meeting was attended by 60 people from agricultural organizations, environmental organizations, municipal water treatment plant managers, academia and government agencies.  Illinois EPA is developing standards to deal with waters that may be impaired by excess nutrients and is working closely with the various stakeholders to gather input as they move forward.  Illinois agriculture's "Keep it for the Crop by 2025" enhanced nutrient stewardship strategy embraces the 4R principles of Right Source, Right Time, Right Rate and Right Place.  SB 2010 mentioned above is our effort to provide a secure source of funds to help implement enhanced nutrient stewardship practices in Illinois.
