Subject Matter Hearing on Dicamba in Illinois House Energy and Environment Committee

Yesterday, the Illinois House Energy and Environment committee had a subject matter hearing HB4363 which would ban the distribution, sale and application of any dicamba products.  The hearing lasted around 30 minutes and was cut short because members had to go to the floor for the start of session. Proponents of the bill did get to speak on their concerns with that dicamba. Most of the proponent’s concerns were regarding tree damage and nature preserve areas.  IFCA's KJ Johnson was present to testify against the bill. IFCA did leave written comments to all committee members regarding IFCA's concerns pertaining to an all-out ban of dicamba.  IFCA knows that the subject is not going to go away and very well might receive another hearing during the fall veto session in late November. IFCA will continue discussions with all members of the House Energy and Environment Committee to relay how IFCA has worked with IDOA and EPA to produce common sense regulations for dicamba.  IFCA will keep our members informed if any pesticide legislation begins moving at the Illinois State Capitol.
