Illinois House Approves New Legislature Watch Dog in Split Vote
On Thursday, the Illinois House of Representatives approved 77-16 retired federal Judge Michael McCuskey to be the new legislative inspector general, a position that has sat vacant since the former officeholder, Carol Pope, resigned on Jan. 6. The Illinois Senate approved McCuskey's nomination on Wednesday, 37-17. Both votes were largely among party lines.
McCuskey is a former federal and state judge who served on the Illinois Supreme Court's Commission on Professionalism and the Illinois State University Board of Trustees. McCuskey was appointed to the U.S. District Court in central Illinois by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by a Republican-controlled U.S. Senate in 1998.
