New ag machinery rule comes to light
A little-noticed rule within the MAP-21 long-term highway authorization bill, signed in 2012, is lighting up concerns within the fertilizer industry.
“I think it’s going to be a hurdle, and I think we are going to have a lot of issues,” said John Rebholz, director of safety and education for the Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association.
The lighting standard for implements of agriculture is a standard of the American Society of Agriculture and Biological Engineers. The standard, 279.14, was buried in the fine print of the MAP-21 bill.
