U of I scientist to study phosphorous technology
A slow-release phosphorous fertilizer offers tantalizing answers to challenges facing Illinois farmers, and a new University of Illinois soil scientist plans to study the possibilities.
Andrew Margenot, assistant professor in the College of Agricultural Consumer and Environmental Sciences, will research struvite in a multiyear project funded by the Illinois Nutrient Research and Education Council (NREC).
“Thanks to NREC funding, can we make phosphorous better synchronized to the crop demand? And if we achieve that, can we keep it there?” Margenot asked.
