We are very sorry to learn of the passing of Don Schafer, who passed away on January 8 at the age of 85.  Don was a pioneer in both the fertilizer and grain industry, creating Chebanse Crop Service in 1970 and later adding the elevator business.  He was admired as a businessman and cherished as a friend to many in the ag industry and in his community.  

 

Don's obituary, including visitation and services later this week, can be found here.  Don and his wife Elsie raised a large family and have 22 grandchildren.  Their children remain active in the ag business, carrying on the tradition of outstanding service that Don was known for.  Don served on the Board of Directors of both the IFCA and the Grain & Feed Association of Illinois.  He provided leadership in the industry that he loved, and his smile and warmth will always be remembered.
