IFCA stresses dicamba stewardship

Now that a formulation of dicamba herbicide has been approved for use in Illinois this year, Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association (IFCA) President Jean Payne says the next step is education on proper stewardship of the technology.

“We’re going to have to do an incredible amount of training with our members and with private applicators, which would be farmers, on the proper stewardship of this, because we don’t want to lose this technology if we don’t handle it correctly,” Payne said. “It’s a huge issue and we’re going to tackle it head-on.”

In fact, the topic will get plenty of attention at the IFCA convention, Jan. 17-19 at Peoria Civic Center. Several sessions emphasizing stewardship of dicamba and other herbicides are scheduled for the morning of Jan. 19.
