GMO Labeling Bill on the President's Desk
Both the US Senate and House have passed a bill setting a federal standard for labeling of foods that include genetically modified ingredients. The bill also blocks states from issuing their own GMO labeling laws. The bill requires the US Department of Agriculture to create a national labeling standard that allows food processors to choose how they want to disclose the presence of GMO ingredients. The ag industry and the food industry supported this legislation to assure uniformity in food labeling. The bill is now on President Obama's desk and he has indicated he will sign it.
