IFCA Spring Keep it 4R Crop Bulletin - Check it Out

Each season, IFCA publishes a two page bulletin to keep everyone abreast of our 4R activities and findings.  Click here to read our Spring 2016 edition.  It features Fred Butt from United Prairie in Crescent City, IL as our "Retailer in Action" and also has an update on nitrate levels in soil and water, results of nitrogen rate trials and a shout out to the Illinois CCAs who are now 4R Certified (we have the most 4R specialists in the nation!).  This bulletin is written for a wide audience, including all the groups that IFCA works with on nutrient issues:  environmental groups, state and federal agencies, water treatment and water supply officials and our fellow ag organizations.  Dan Schaefer and Jason Solberg lead the Keep it 4R Crop Program and NREC provides funding for this important on-farm work and outreach.  We help facilitate the University of Illinois NREC projects as well and engage retailers and farmers in science based projects to improve our knowledge on practices that can reduce nutrient losses and improve nutrient utilization.  Check out our "Keep it 4R Crop Tools" on the ifca.com website and we have also posted the most recent University of Illinois Bulletin with an update on Soil Nitrogen, much of which is based on the work performed by IFCA in partnership with the UI Dept of Crop Sciences.  Click here for that report by Dr. Nafziger.  The applied nitrogen is still poised to support this year's crop and we keep a close eye on N levels in our Illinois water supplies.  Thanks to all the IFCA members who support this important work and demonstrate our industry's leadership on these challenging nutrient management issues.  These efforts play a key role in helping Illinois avoiding litigation and regulation on nutrient use.
