Term Limit Proposals Floated in General Assembly

Listed as up for consideration in an Illinois Senate subcommittee Tuesday morning were 30 separate proposals for amendments to the Illinois Constitution.

Eight of them addressed one particular issue: term limits for the four legislative leaders, including the speaker of the House, president of the Senate and the top minority leaders in each chamber.

Other proposals addressed term limits for all legislators and for members of the executive as well, such as the governor, attorney general and secretary of state.

When you add all the different term-limit proposals together — some from Democrats, some from Republicans, some from suburbanites, some from Chicagoans — there are 26 sponsors or co-sponsors for amendments that would restrict at least some legislative terms.
