Panel discusses Illinois' nutrient strategy successes
The agriculture community is working to fend off possible mandates on nutrient reduction. The key, many say, is in voluntary efforts beginning on the farm.
A panel at the Farm Asset Conference agreed awareness of the problem and a combined effort to keep more inputs in the field are key.
“The Gulf Restoration Network has been trying to push EPA to put into place nutrient standards for this entire Mississippi River Basin. The good news is that they have not succeeded,” said Jonathon Coppess, an agricultural policy analyst with the University of Illinois
