Nitrate movement complicates Iowa's water quality goals
One of the biggest complicating factors in the problem of water quality in Iowa and other Midwestern states is the complex science of where nitrates come from and how they move.
Michael Castellano, an associate professor of agronomy at Iowa State University, talked about the problem of nitrate science with a group of farmers at the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation’s annual meeting last week.
“There is no silver bullet here,” Castellano said.
