Even GOP sees tax increase as inevitable

Even Republican members of the Illinois General Assembly are talking about the inevitability of a tax increase to resolve part of Illinois' ongoing budget stalemate between legislative Democrats and Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner.
 
State Sen. Jason Barickman, R-Bloomington, mentioned it in a talk Monday before the Champaign County Active Senior Republicans.
 
"The compromise here is that we embrace some of the reforms that are needed to help grow our economy, and the other side of it is the side that won't be loved by Republicans but is simply a reality," he said. "Our state government is going to ask you to contribute more of your money. In some form there will be a tax increase, a revenue enhancement of some sort that is going to ask Illinois taxpayers to put more of their money and trust in their government. We know that's coming."
 
Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno, R-Lemont, said much the same thing last month.
