License Plate Renewals for Nurse Tanks, Floaters

The IL Secretary of State will no longer be mailing reminders to vehicle owners to renew their license plates in order to save our bankrupt state over $450,000 per month.  Most vehicle owners can go on-line to renew their plates, but that is not the case with special plates, such as fertilizer trailer plates.  So.....IFCA is working with the Sec of State staff to come up a workable way for our members to renew thousands of fertilizer trailer plates.  First, be mindful of the date your plates expire, and don't let them expire before you deal with this.  The SOS has asked that if you have 10 or less trailers, you can take your plate numbers or last year's registration cards to the local SOS office and they should be able to issue the new stickers.  But if you have a lot more than 10 plates, please prepare a spreadsheet that lists the year and VIN of the vehicle (if applicable) and the plate number.  It may be best to send this list directly to the SOS office electronically in Springfield where they will review it and then let you know the amount you owe.  The details are not quite worked out but you can start working on your spreadsheet and we will provide more details as the SOS office works through this issue.  If your plates are going to expire very soon, and you have more than 10 plates that will expire, we recommend you call Scott Tucker at the IL SOS office in Springfield at (217) 785-1810 next week to work out a plan.  We will keep you posted.  Has our state hit rock bottom yet with regard to the budget deficit?  Unfortunately we don't think so.
