Scale Read-Outs
IFCA along with our colleagues at the Grain & Feed Association and the IL Aggregate Producers are working with the IL Dept of Ag Bureau of Weights and Measures regarding the need for read-out of the scale measurement that the customer can view. Handbook 44, the national standard governing weighing & measuring devices, requires that a weighing device used in direct sales be positioned so that its indications may be accurately read and may be observed from some reasonable position by the customer or operator. This may be more of an issue at grain facilities and rock quarries than at agrichemical facilities where many ag inputs sales are weighed by the facility employees vs. having customers go across the scales. But we want to assess the potential impact on our industry, so if you have had a scale inspector tell you that you need a scale read-out that is easily visible or accessible to view by customers, please advise Jean or KJ at IFCA, email us at kj@ifca.com or jeanp@ifca.com or 309.827.2774. Thank you!
