Last Day to Register On-Line for IFCA Convention!
Today, January 14, is the last day to regsiter on-line for the IFCA convention and secure the pre-registration price, which saves you $15 vs. registering at the show itself.
On January 20, we have an excellent CCA session planned where you will learn about the innovative research being done in Illinois to determine pratical ways to reduce nutrient losses and improve nutrient utilization. IFCA retail members who sell fertilizer to farmers should be passing along the 75 cent per ton assessment for the Nutrient Research & Education Council on your fertilizer invoices. This money is funding significant research that will benefit farmers directly. Ag retailers and CCAs are the magnifiers to the farmers of the lessons learned from this research to ensure we make progress in reducing nutrient losses to avoid onerous regulations.
In Iowa, the Des Moines Waterworks Board voted last week to file suit against three counties and their drainage districts for excess nitrates in the Des Moines River, which serves as the drinking water supply for 500,000 Iowans. Weekly samples taken from the river in Sac County, IA since March have shown high concentrations of nitrates. The Chairman of the Waterworks stated "We're not out to seek damages, we're really out there to seek this permitting and regulatory process. This is about protecting Iowa waterways." This is getting close to home, so please register to attend the NREC CCA session on January 20th at the IFCA convention and learn about new discoveries and tools to manage nutrients and ensure accountability on our progress in this effort to our state government and fellow citizens. IFCA members have been, and can continue to lead in this effort, so come and learn the latest on what you can offer at your business to assist your farmer customers and ensure a vibrant nutrient future for Illinois agriculture.

Also at the Convention, we are offering Anhydrous Ammonia Safety Training to fulfill your IDA competent attendant requirement for employees who handle ammonia. Pesticide applicator training and testing is also offered. Both of these training sessions are on January 21 at the convention. A session on Custom Application Vehicle Safety is another choice, as is a panel of experts on the IL Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy and how our industry can lead in this effort.
