Veto Session Grinds to Close; Senate Could Return in Early January

The General Assembly's 2014 veto session ground to a close last Thursday with the Illinois Senate approving bills allowing bobcat hunting in the state, giving downstate utilities rate increases and overriding a veto of a bill dealing with voluminous open-records requests.

Senators left open the possibility of returning to Springfield on Jan. 13, a day before a new edition of the General Assembly is sworn into office.  However, Senate President John Cullerton, D-Chicago, told members it was unlikely any further action would be taken.

The House adjourned on last Wednesday with no plans to return before new lawmakers are sworn in Jan. 14.
