Ohio Lawmakers Propose Fighting Lake Erie Algal Blooms by Restricting Fertilizer Use, Dredging
State lawmakers have proposed significant new rules designed to reduce the phosphorus runoff that promotes toxic Lake Erie algal blooms, including restriction on when northwest Ohio farmers could use fertilizer and manure.
The proposed rules, if passed, would mark the state's strongest response yet to curb Lake Erie algal blooms, which led Toledo to ban drinking water for three days this summer.
