This past week was a significant one in terms of announcements on the expansion of nitrogen production in Illinois. IFCA member Rentech Nitrogen in East Dubuque, IL announced a new agreement with Tessenderlo Kerly Inc. (TKI) to construct a $20 million fertilizer plant in Jo Daviess County. Rentech will supply TKI with ammonia produced at its facility, and TKI will use the ammonia to produce liquid fertilizer. This newly constructed facility will be located adjacent to Rentech's East Dubuque facility, and will create construction jobs as well as new full time jobs. Also this past week, Cronus Fertilizers announced a $1.4 billion investment in a granular urea fertilizer plant in Tuscola, IL in Douglas County. The plant is expected to commence operations in mid 2017 and will result in construction jobs and up to 200 new full time employees.
