Fall Fertilizer Stewardship & Safety

As the harvest progresses, please take time to review the stewardship guidelines for fall applied fertilizers, particularly fall applied nitrogen.  These guidelines are posted on the IFCA home page, click here.  There is also a link to the State Water Survey soil temperatures.  It's up to us to prove we can recommend and apply nitrogen in ways that reduce the potential for loss by waiting until soil temperatures fall to 50 degrees and will remain there, and to stabilize fall applied nitrogen as well.

Also, please encourage your farmer customers to take the time to review the FREE on-line anhydrous ammonia training program posted here .  It reviews all aspects of proper transportation of nurse tanks, personal protective equipment, properties of ammonia, first aid and emergency response.  A few minutes on-line can help save lives, protect property and ensure safety for your farmer customers.  This free training program was funded by the Illinois Nutrient Research & Education Council.
