Anhydrous Ammonia Topics

As our industry prepares for the fall ammonia season, here are a few reminders:

1.  You can hire seasonal employees to transport ammonia nurse tanks by obtaining a Restricted CDL.  The employee only needs a valid Class B driver's license and must be employed by an agricultural input supplier.  Simply fill out an application and send it in the Illinois Secretary of State.  Click here to be directed to the application form.

2.  The Illinois Dept of Ag is hosting three ammonia toolbar safety workshops next week:  Sept 23 @ Holiday Inn Mt. Vernon, Sept 24 @ Asmark Agricenter Bloomington and Sept 25 @ Civic Center Mendota.  The classes are FREE and run from 9 to noon.  Several speakers and equipment suppliers will demonstrate proper installation and maintenance of toolbar appurtenances and quick couplers.  Help assure a safe environment at your company and for our industry by attending.  Simply call IDA at 217.782.3817 to register to attend.

3.  We continue to get questions about pending changes to the IL Anhydrous Ammonia regulations.  While the rules have not yet been published, they will be soon.  An overview of the changes being proposed are available in a powerpoint presentation, click here.  We anticipate the rules will be finalized for public comment later this year.  If you have questions, please contact Jean at IFCA at 309.827.2774.
