NREC Needs Your Help on Grain Samples

In 2014, the Illinois Nutrient Research & Education Council (NREC) funded a project to better assess how much N, P and K are being removed in harvested corn, soybeans and wheat.  The University of Illinois is conducting this study and needs our industry's help in sending in harvested grain samples to get a wide cross-section from around the state.  If you can participate as a retailer or grain elevator, or ask your farmer customers to assist, you need only send an email to NPKremoval@gmail.com to request a sample kit and instructions.  UI needs about 6-8 ounces of grain per sample, sent in at standard moisture so that it ships well.  NREC will pay for the mailing and analysis of the grain nutrient uptake.  This is a vital reserach project to ensure that our land grant nutrient recommendations are as accurate as possible to assure soil fertility and long-term profitability in our industry.  Thank you!
