CF Industries will shut its ammonia-production plant in Billingham, U.K., after concluding that importing ammonia was more cost effective due to high British natural-gas prices.
 
The fertilizer maker will continue producing ammonia-nitrate fertilizer and nitric acid using imported ammonia at the complex in Northern England, as it has done since idling the ammonia-production operations there in August 2022.
